A man was "critical" in hospital today after being shot in the chest.

A man was "critical" in hospital today after being shot in the chest.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said they were treating the incident in Church Road, Ballynure, Co Antrim as attempted murder.

The 31-year-old victim, who is a member of the travelling community, was attacked and shot in a house.

Ambulance crews were called and the man was rushed to Antrim Area Hospital, where his condition was described as critical but stable.

Police said they were following a number of clues but an exact motive for the shooting had not yet been established.

They have asked for information about a silver Mazda 626 reported to be in the vicinity at the time of the shooting.
