The PSNI has renewed an appeal for information on last week's £1.2 million security van robbery in Belfast.

The PSNI has renewed an appeal for information on last week's £1.2 million security van robbery in Belfast.

A woman was taken hostage by a gang in the Belvoir estate last Tuesday and was held for up to eight hours until her partner, who works for Brinks security company, delivered the cash to the waiting robbers at a garage and filling station in the Finaghy area of south Belfast.

The Brinks employee was told to meet other gang members at a business premises not far from the King's Hall in south Belfast.

"He was to hand over a large sum of cash to an unknown party," a police spokeswoman said. "Once this handover had taken place the woman was released unharmed in the Annadale area of south Belfast."

Police have called on anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the Drumart Square area of the Belvoir Estate or in Annadale Avenue early on Tuesday to contact them.

They also want to know if anyone can assist with their inquiries into a blue Renault Megane which was found burnt out at Old Glencairn Road in north Belfast last Tuesday evening.
