Pup breeding inquiry ordered

THE Taoiseach has ordered an inquiry into whether legislation should be introduced to control the breeding of pups.

THE Taoiseach has ordered an inquiry into whether legislation should be introduced to control the breeding of pups.

"Obviously, existing legislation places obligations on people to avoid cruelty to animals, and I think that legislation, and the responsibilities under it, should be properly adhered to by all those who take animals into their care," said Mr Bruton.

He was replying to Mr Joe Walsh (FF, Cork South West) who asked if the Government had any plans to introduce controls or legislation to curb the activities of "puppy farms". "There is unspeakable cruelty caused to dogs in these puppy dog farms."
