A MAJOR push in the British and German markets is to be part of Tourism Ireland’s marketing plans for next year, as it targets an overall increase of 3 per cent in overseas numbers and revenue.

Minister for Tourism Martin Cullen, in a statement yesterday, said the industry was a priority in the drive for economic recovery. He added that the department’s tourism services budget for next year is more than €155 million, representing a 2 per cent increase on this year.

Mr Cullen said that the challenge was to build on the excellent tourism offering which the State had.

“This is helped by Government investment in festivals and events around the country,’’ he added.
