Radiohead has cancelled seven European performances following the death of a crew member when a stage collapsed in advance of a concert in Toronto, Canada.

Radiohead, from Oxfordshire, had been due to play to a sold-out crowd at Downsview Park when a light show on the stage collapsed in on workers.

Scott Johnson (33) from Doncaster in Yorkshire, was later found trapped under the rubble and three other crew members were injured.

A message on the radiohead.com website said: “We have all been shattered by the loss of Scott Johnson, our friend and colleague.

“We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and love are with Scott’s family and all those close to him.”

The band said it needed time to replace the light show. The cancelled dates, from June 30th to July 9th, include concerts in Rome, Berlin and Switzerland. The group said it will try to reschedule the shows.

“This [light] show was unique and will take many weeks to replace,” a spokesman said.

“The collapse also caused serious damage to our backline, some elements of which are decades old and therefore hard to replace.

“Whilst we all are dealing with the grief and shock ensuing from this terrible accident there are also many practical considerations to deal with.”

Canadian authorities have launched an investigation into Mr Johnson’s death.
