AT least seven people, including a young girl, were injured when a car crashed through a tape barrier during the Circuit of Kerry rally last night.
The yellow Nova car missed a right hand turn travelling through Dunquin village, crashed into a parked car and then into a group of spectators.
Seven people were taken to Tralee general hospital for treatment and two were still detained there last night. One of them - a man - had sustained a broken leg and the other, a girl, a foot injury.
Over 100 cars took part in the annual rally which begins at the Banna Beach Hotel in Tralee and travels around the Dingle peninsula. The accident happened at 5.15 p.m. on the second stage of the circuit. The Circuit of Kerry forms the second round in the National Rally Championships.
The competition liaison officer, Mr Martin Switzer, said nobody was seriously injured in the accident and the one day event continued to completion. He said the car went into the junction too fast, drove down a slip road and hit the spectators.
