Rangers 3 Celtic 2
Rangers moved ahead of Celtic to the top of the Scottish Premier League thanks to a 3-2 victory over their rivals at Ibrox today.
Chris Sutton had given Celtic lead after just 19 seconds only for Rangers to hit back with goals from Craig Moore, Ronald de Boer and Michael Mols.
John Hartson pulled one back on the hour but Celtic could not find an equaliser.
Thompson fired a free kick past the wall but straight at Klos as Celtic pressed for an equaliser.
Lovenkrands went down in the Celtic box as Balde challenged but referee Clark awarded only a goal kick.
Then the Dane got the better of a high-speed tussle with Laursen but could only scuff a shot tamely at Douglas at his near post.
In the 84th minute Rangers sent Claudio Caniggia on in place of Mols.
McCann was booked a minute later for dissent following a free kick decision that went Celtic's way.
McCann then got past Valgaeren on the left and it needed Balde to hack away the cross.
The final few minutes were frantic and Klos had to punch a Petrov corner away from Hartson.
A Rangers counter attack saw Lovenkrands bustle his way into the box but his final ball just eluded Caniggia at the far post.
But that was the final chance of the match and victory belonged to Rangers. PA
