THE "Real IRA" has warned that it will not end its campaign until there is a British withdrawal from Ireland and a 32-county socialist republic is established, writes Suzanne Breen.

The statement was issued yesterday as British army bomb experts prepared to defuse a "Real IRA" mortar bomb in Galbally, Co Tyrone. Meanwhile, in its Easter message yesterday, the Continuity IRA said anyone considering joining the new police force should "reflect on what happened to those who have done so in the past".

Mr David Trimble has expressed disappointment with the Provisional IRA's Easter message. The Provisionals said: "The political responsibility for ending the current crisis lies with the British government. Those who seek to defeat the IRA and Irish republicanism will not prevail."

Mr Trimble accused the organisation of playing "word games", saying, "the IRA appears to overlook the fact that in 1998 all the people of this island voted to endorse the principle of consent".
