Rector's affair cause for scandal - court

Caernarvon - A married clergyman did have an affair with a woman parishioner, a special church court ruled last night. The Rev Clifford Williams (49), the rector of Benllech on the north Wales island of Angelsey, was found to have had an adulterous relationship with Mrs Iris Green. But Mr Williams was cleared of being involved in scandalous behaviour with a second woman parishioner, Ms Anne Williams.

The court ruled that the conduct of the rector had given just cause for scandal or offence.

Mr Williams had denied all the charges and accused Mrs Green of stalking him.
