The Northern Secretary has said he will not hesitate to take action against any loyalist paramilitary groups found to have broken their ceasefires.
Dr John Reid was speaking after a series of violent incidents in north Belfast, believed to have been linked to a feud between the Loyalist Volunteer Force and the Ulster Volunteer Force.
Police are treating the shooting of a man in the leg on Monday as attempted murder. The man, in his 20s, was with a group of young men when there was an argument and he was shot. A row over the placing of a mural on the wall of Ballysillan Leisure Centre is believed to have led to the attacks.
Another man was later shot in a paramilitary-style attack in a nationalist area of west Belfast. Police said the 26-year-old was shot in both ankles in a garden in the Ballymurphy area at about 3.40 p.m. yesterday.
Dr Reid, who can revoke the licences of prisoners released under the agreement, said he would "act accordingly" if he found new evidence that some of these groups, which were supposedly on ceasefire, were not.
Meanwhile, the RUC was investigating a paramilitary-style "punishment" shooting of a young man in the leg in mainly loyalist Glencairn in north Belfast on Monday night.
In east Belfast a man was arrested during sporadic stoning in the Short Strand area on Monday night.
