Maputo - Mozambique's opposition Renamo party yesterday warned of a renewal of violence and threatened to form a "parallel" government if the government did not hold a recount of votes from December's general elections.

Renamo leader Mr Afonso Dhlakama told a news conference that his party - which fought the government during 16 years of civil war that ended in 1992 - was giving the government 10 days to hold a recount.
