Washington - The US Attorney General, Ms Janet Reno, ordered US marshals to seize an FBI tape recording of the 1993 siege of a cult in Waco, Texas, that ended in a huge fire and 80 deaths, the New York Times said yesterday.
The newspaper also said Ms Reno had on Wednesday ordered an independent investigation into the siege. Officials said she would name a prominent figure outside the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
In the previously undisclosed tape, Justice Department officials said, FBI agents can be heard getting their superiors' approval to fire inflammable tear-gas rounds at a bunker near the Branch Davidian compound.
