Connemara residents who bought second-hand computers in good faith when a State community development company was wound up have had to return the property to the liquidator.
The Data Protection Commissioner was forced to intervene when it learned computers with sensitive information had been acquired. Five computers were among equipment recently removed from the premises of Meitheal Forbartha na Gaeltachta in Rosmuc, Co Galway, which was terminated by its board last month due to financial difficulties.
The company’s debts were said to exceed €1 million, and liquidators Friel Stafford were appointed.
