Robbie 'floored' by Irish response

Robbie Williams has described Take That’s concert last night at Croke Park as “life defining”.

Williams’ looked like he was crying during the solo part of his set and confirmed in a blog post on his website that the reaction of the crowd had transformed him from “preening peacock prima donna showman to a ball of mush within seconds”.

The singer, who rejoined Take That last year after a decade as a superstar in his own right, praised the “overwhelming good will, love, smiles, happiness, approval and acceptance” he got from the crowd and admitted it left him “proper floored”.

Williams said he had given everything he had on Saturday night and approached last night’s concert with “trepidation” as he was a “little jaded and drained” from the night before.

The singer had his solo slot five songs into the set. He started with Let Me Entertain You and finished with a sing-along version of Angels. He then joined his four bandmates for the rest of their set.

He continued: “I wasn’t expecting what came next. I proper lost my s*** … it was so powerful that I didn’t know if I was going to be able to collect myself. There’s a tear in my eye thinking about it now.”

The two weekend Croke Park concerts attracted a total crowd of 160,000.

Take That are in the middle of a stadium tour which continues on Thursday at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

Williams admitted that the concerts to date had ranged from “brilliant to religious every night” but Ireland had topped them all.
