ROD STEWART is to play in Limerick's Thomond Park rugby stadium next summer, it was announced yesterday.
The 63-year-old singer will perform at the stadium on July 4th next.
Tickets for the 20,000-capacity concert go on sale this Friday.
All 5,000 tickets for Rod Stewart's indoor show at the Marquee in Cork on July 7th have been sold and the promoters are confident that the Thomond Park concert will also sell out. Confirmation of the Rod Stewart concert follows last's month announcement that Elton John would perform at the rugby stadium on June 6th next.
Aiken Promotions, which secured the two-concert deal for Thomond Park, said yesterday that about 70 per cent of tickets have been sold for the Elton John performance.
Stadium manager John Cantwell said yesterday: "On the back of the All-Blacks match I think everybody has recognised that that was an event, and now Limerick and Munster truly has a world-class event facility."
Tickets for the Rod Stewart concert cost €91.25 seated and €81.25 general admission.
They will go on on sale this Friday through Ticketmaster and other usual outlets nationwide.
In other concert news, Lily Allen is to play The Academy in Dublin in March. Tickets go on sale tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Finnish rockers Lordi will bring their inimitable style to the Button Factory in Dublin on February 15th next.
