US republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who has called for the scrapping of president Barack Obama’s 2010 healthcare law, said in remarks aired yesterday that he liked key parts of “Obamacare”, despite his party’s loathing of it, and wanted to retain them.
Mr Romney, who faces Mr Obama in the election on November 6th, has vowed throughout the campaign to repeal and replace the Obama healthcare law.
Asked about the law yesterday, Mr Romney said: “Well, I’m not getting rid of all of healthcare reform.”
“Of course, there are a number of things that I like in healthcare reform that I’m going to put in place,” Mr Romney added.
“One is to make sure that those with pre- existing conditions can get coverage. Two is to assure that the marketplace allows for individuals to have policies that cover their family up to whatever age they might like.”
The law prevents insurance companies from denying medical coverage to people with pre- existing conditions. It also allows parents to keep their young adult children on their plans until the age of 26. – (Reuters)
