Five prisoners mounted a rooftop protest at Limerick prison last night.

Five prisoners mounted a rooftop protest at Limerick prison last night.

The protest began at 6.30pm when three prisoners climbed on to the upper section of the roof and two climbed on to a flat section.  The protest ended at 5.30 this morning.

The prison governor is to carry out an investigation into how the five men got onto the roof. Gardaí were present and the garda helicopter was giving visual assistance from the air.
