The Medical Council has criticised management at the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit at Dublin's Rotunda Hospital over its role in the child sexual abuse controversy surrounding Dr Moira Woods.

Dr Woods, who pioneered the treatment of child sex abuse in Ireland, was found guilty of professional misconduct by the Medical Council earlier this year.

But today the Medical Council said some mistakes were made by the management of the treatment unit.

The Medical Council found Dr Woods guilty of misconduct following an investigation of allegations from five families, first made almost 10 years ago, that they had been falsely accused in the 1980s of child sex abuse by Dr Woods, who was then director of the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit in the Rotunda Hospital.
