Judgment was reserved until next year by the High Court yesterday in a case in which attempts are being made to prevent the removal of the altars, altar rails and pulpit from the Cathedral of the Assumption, Carlow.
A temporary injunction was granted last month to Mr Sean Connolly, Chapelstown, Co Carlow, preventing the removal.
Mr Connolly said he lived in the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin and had attended Mass in the cathedral all his life.
The injunction is against Father John Byrne, administrator of the cathedral, and the trustees of the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin.
Before Mr Justice Barron yesterday was an application for an interlocutory injunction pending the hearing of a full action.
The judge has also been, asked to decide whether or not the case can proceed in the absence of the consent of the Attorney General. Under the Charities Act, it was submitted, the Attorney General must give consent to a challenge to a charitable trust.
