About 300 tonnes of oil have been spilled off the southern coast of Ireland.

About 300 tonnes of oil have been spilled off the southern coast of Ireland.

The incident, which took place in the vicinty of Russian naval vessels about 50 miles south of Fastnet, is believed to have occured as a result of a refuelling operation.

The Irish Coast Guard is monitoring the spill, which is breaking up and is not expected to reach the shore.
