Schindlers Hunt looked a youngster to follow when announcing his arrival on the scene with a taking victory in the Durkan New Homes Novice Chase at Leopardstown.

It proved an eventful renewal of the two-mile-one-furlong Grade One event, as the highly-regarded Glenfinn Captain (11-4 favourite) took a crashing fall at the fourth-last fence when still travelling strongly at the head of affairs.

Pom Flyer also departed at that obstacle, while Robert Tyner's Young Desperado came to grief at the penultimate fence when only a few lengths behind the principals.

Blueberry Boy had grabbed the lead after Glenfinn Captain's fall and swung for home still moving powerfully enough, although Roger Loughran looked to have all moves covered aboard the 3-1 winner.

The duo led approaching the last and stayed on best of all to power clear and register a comprehensive 10-length triumph over the Mouse Morris-trained Hear The Echo, a 50-1 outsider.

Blueberry Boy stuck to his task gamely once headed but tired noticeably after the last and had to settle for the bronze medal, a further length away.

Winning handler Dessie Hughes said: "He is a good jumper and has plenty of speed and stays well.

"He likes a good galloping track and he will come back here to Leopardstown next for the Arkle (January 28). He is a real athlete - he was electric today."

Lounaos had earlier maintained her unbeaten record and fuelled dreams of Triumph Hurdle glory by asserting her authority to claim the Durkan New Homes Juvenile Hurdle.

Eoin Griffin's filly was always travelling smoothly and moved menacingly onto the heels of Michael O'Brien's Deputy Consort as the field approached the penultimate flight.

The pair touched down in unison but Barry Geraghty soon sent the 5-4 favourite into a ready lead, and without having to ask her for a serious effort, she began to ease away from her rivals.

10-1 shot Robin Du Bois stayed on well and looked dangerous for a few strides approaching the final flight but Geraghty then let out another inch or two of rein and Lounaos scooted clear once more.

She had three and a half lengths to spare at the line, with Deputy Consort a further 14 behind the front two, and bookmakers were quick to react to her impressive success.

Totesport saw fit to cut her to 8-1 joint-favourite (from 14s) with Katchit, while William Hill trimmed her to 11s from 14-1.

The winning handler said: "She could go next for the Cashmans Hurdle at Leopardstown in January.

"She will be entered for Cheltenham (Triumph) but I won't run her on fast ground.

"There's also a one-mile-seven-furlong Flat race for her at the end of April and that's an option too."

Arthur Moore was also on target as Mansony made a winning return to action in the paddypowerpoker.com Handicap Chase.

Davy Russell conjured a strong finish from the seven-year-old, who holds an entry in the Victor Chandler Chase at Ascot on January 20th, as the pair ran out gutsy winners of the two-mile-one-furlong event.
