Northern Ireland could lose any influence it has over key decisions affecting its people if the power-sharing government is suspended following moves to remove Sinn Féin from office, the SDLP said last night.

SDLP Agriculture Minster Ms Bríd Rodgers urged unionists and republicans to abandon confrontation and implement the Belfast Agreement in full.
She was speaking ahead of a debate in the Assembly today on two unionist motions seeking to remove Sinn Féin’s Mr Martin McGuinness and Ms Bairbre de Brún from office. The motions are expected to fail, as they do not have the support of the SDLP.
"It is extremely frustrating that once again we are going through a period of political instability when there are a lot of important challenges facing this executive," Ms Rodgers said.
"Northern Ireland could lose any chance it has of ensuring its interests are protected in the negotiations by losing its executive and its ability to influence UK policy".
The Upper Bann MLA confirmed her party would not be supporting today's motions from the Ulster Unionists and the Democratic Unionists to expel the Sinn Féin ministers.
