Gardaí in Drogheda are investigating the second cash-in-transit raid in five weeks at the same shopping centre.
A quantity of cash was taken yesterday afternoon by a lone raider who escaped in a car driven by an accomplice. The raid took place as a security man was returning to the van with a box containing cash from one of the stores in the Scotch Hall shopping centre on the Marsh Road.
He was approached from behind by a man with a scarf over his face and carrying a baseball hat. He brandished what appeared to be a sawn-off shot-gun and demanded the money. The money box was placed on the ground by the security man and the raider grabbed it and ran to a waiting car.
The car, believed to be a dark-grey Audi A4, left in the direction of Mornington.
The incident was practically identical to the previous raid on October 23rd and both took place at approximately 4.50pm. There were no shots fired and no one injured yesterday.
Gardaí in Drogheda last night appealed for any witnesses to suspicious activity near the centre between 4.30 and 4.50pm yesterday to contact them.
