A Fine Gael senator has urged an immediate restriction on paracetamol, given the frequency of overdoses on the drug among young people, particularly women. Paracetamol should not be freely available, Mr Dan Neville said.

One in five overdoses in Ireland was caused by paracetamol products and it was the second most frequent cause of poisoning in 1993.
