BELGRADE - The Serbian opposition grouping has agreed to suspend street protests for three weeks to give the government time to meet its demands for liberalising the state run media.

Mr Zoran Djindjic, co leader of the Zajedno coalition, told some 10,000 demonstrators in Belgrade - a fraction of the 500,000 that took to the streets at the height of the protests - that they had achieved one of their main aims, the recognition of opposition gains in local elections. Their other objectives fair conditions ahead of the next elections.
