Leposavic - Around 500 Serbs gathered in the northern Kosovo town of Leposavic yesterday to protest at the killing of a Serb demonstrator by peacekeepers during a demonstration against NATO and the UN.

Another Serb was wounded during Saturday's violent protest outside the UN police station in Leposavic.

A Belgian Kfor officer at the scene said yesterday the Serb had died when a warning shot fired by Belgian troops ricocheted. Both wounded protesters were taken to a military hospital in nearby Kosovska Mitrovica, where one later died. A third Serb, who apparently suffered a heart attack in the crowd, also died.
