The third Seve Trophy match in which Britain and Ireland play against Continental Europe will now be played over four days rather than three at El Saler in Valencia in November.

The match will begin on Thursday, November 6th, rather than the following day, with event promoters Amen Corner saying that it will generate additional exposure and avoid any problems with fading light.

The new format will see fourball matches played on both Thursday and Friday, morning greensomes and afternoon foursomes on Saturday and then the traditional 10 singles matches on Sunday.

Home captain Seve Ballesteros, who will be looking for his third win out of three over opposite number Colin Montgomerie in the singles, said: "Having another day to play fourball matches will be less tiring and give the players the chance to bring out their best for the watching fans.

"I just want the fans to know that the extra day is not there to help me finish my singles match with Monty," quipped Ballesteros who bucked the odds and miraculously defeated Monty in the top singles match last time.

The Seve Trophy was last played in Ireland at Druids Glen in Co Wicklow where the Britain and Ireland team triumphed over their Continental European counterparts.
