Up to 16 people are to face charges following a riot on Dollymount Strand, Dublin yesterday.
Gardaí arrested 16 people after the incident, in which three gardaí were injured.
Some of the 16 will face charges, while others will be dealt with by the national juvenile liaison officer. The three females and thirteen males, including a number of juveniles, were released earlier today.
The riot squad was called in after gang fighting broke out at about 6 p.m. at a dance festival on Dollymount Strand yesterday evening run by MTV, 2FM and HB, the ice-cream company.
Gardaí said the trouble was started by a group of about 50 youths who had been drinking heavily throughout the afternoon. Some of those attending the event said that at one point up to 500 party-goers had become involved in the riot.
Three gardaí were treated in a Dublin hospital and a number of Garda vehicles were damaged by youths throwing rocks and glass bottles.
