Sixteen tourism projects in the Shannon region are to receive a total grant package of €100,000 under a new Shannon Development Tourism and Heritage Innovation Programme.
The programme was open to private sector interests, public bodies, semi-State organisations and voluntary organisations.
The grant package will be used to support projects in counties Clare, Limerick and Kerry, which are collectively valued at €1.3 million.
Shannon Development came up with the idea of the programme to help stimulate new tourism ideas, concepts, strategic gaps, and opportunities in new and existing tourism and heritage products in the region.
Under the programme the successful projects are eligible for grant support up to a maximum of €15,000.
"Shannon Development is committed to pioneering new initiatives and enhancing existing tourism projects. To achieve this we were delighted to launch a new tourism support programme earlier this year. Our aim was to assist projects which can help enhance the profile of the Shannon Regions as a tourism destination," said Mr John King, its heritage and tourism director.
Seven tourism projects in Co Clare will receive assistance under the programme, including Ennis Walking Tours which will carry out a research and feasibility study around the development of specialist heritage walking tours.
Eight tourism projects in Limerick city and county will all receive assistance under the programme.
