Gaelic Games:Joe Sheridan has retired from inter-county football with Meath to take up a construction job in the United States.
The 27-year-old Seneschalstown forward signed off his playing career in Meath’s 1-12 to 1-11 defeat to Galway at Pearse Stadium on Sunday by scoring the equalising goal after coming off the bench. An injury-time point from Paul Conroy earned the home side the victory.
In a statement, Sheridan, who left for America today, thanked members of the county’s management and the county board in trying to help him secure employment in Ireland, saying it was a tough decision to emigrate.
Sheridan said: “After a lot of thought I have decided to emigrate to take up an opportunity I simply could not refuse. I finalised my decision to travel on Friday last.
“I would like to thank the Meath senior football team management and the Meath county board who worked hard to secure employment for me but I feel that this opportunity abroad is something I need to do.
“I would like to wish my team mates club and county the very best of luck in 2012.”
