A proposal from one of Ireland's leading international showjumpers that Olympic medallist Cian O'Connor should be suspended from membership of the national showjumpers' club received no support at a meeting in Belfast on Saturday.

Harry Marshall tabled a proposal at Saturday's meeting that O'Connor - who is battling to save his Olympic gold medal following two positive dope tests on his horse Waterford Crystal - should be suspended from membership unless he apologises for alleged comments in the media accusing fellow riders of orchestrating a smear campaign against him.

The proposal received no support from the membership. Club chairman Mr Clement McMahon confirmed the motion had not been seconded.
