Shuttle buses will operate tonight to accommodate DART passengers affected by train cancellations due to a collapsed crane in Ringsend, Iarnród Éireann said.
The buses will operate between Corn Exchange Place (near the Screen Cinema, D'Olier Street) and Lansdowne Road station. Disruption to DART and rail services may continue tomorrow.
Work recommenced this morning to clear the crane. Engineers and Health and Safety Authority (HSA) inspectors were on site to oversee the work.
Around 70 residents from Barrow Street and Grand Canal Street spent last night in a hotel after they were evacuated over fears the structure could topple and hit their homes.
Attempts were made yesterday to dismantle the arm of the crane which snapped off at 11 a.m.
Larger cranes were deployed but strong winds and fading light prevented the whole structure being removed and work resumed at first light today. Part of the crane remained suspended over a bridge overnight.
Iarnród Éireann said the crane is unstable and could threaten the line south of Grand Canal Dock Station if a collapse occurred. Iarnród Éireann engineers will remain on site today and are liaising with building site engineers and the HSA, the company said. A spokesman for Dublin Fire Brigade said the fire services were no longer on site, but were available if they were needed. The work to right the crane had been left in the hands of engineers and the HSA, he said.
There will be no DART service between Pearse Street and Lansdowne Road today and a limited service will operate between Lansdowne Road and Bray/Greystones. There will also be delays in northside services.
Northern and Maynooth line commuter services are also expected to be affected, and the Rosslare InterCity and Gorey Commuter Services will be partly or fully substituted by bus.
Normal Northside services will operate between Howth and Malahide and Connolly Station, and will be subject to minor delays.
The Northern and Maynooth line commuter services will operate to and from Pearse but will suffer minor delays. Commuter services on these routes will not operate south of Pearse Street.
Rosslare Services will be part substituted by bus between Connolly and Greystones. The 12.03 Pearse-Arklow service and 14.00 Arklow-Bray services have been cancelled. The 17.25 Connolly-Gorey service is also cancelled. Passengers for this services should travel by special buses departing Connolly between 17.00 and 18.30 to connect with the Rosslare service at Greystones.
Iarnród Éireann advised customers to check its website at www.irishrail.ie and to listen to traffic bulletins for the latest updates.
The company said it apologised to customers for the "unavoidable inconvenience" which may result today.
"The suspension of services will be lifted as soon as our engineers are satisfied that trains can safely operate through the area. The possibility exists that there may be further disruption tomorrow, Tuesday 3rd February," Iarnrod Eireann said.
