Eight Aer Lingus managers Siptu believes responsible for a document outlining how staff can be pressurised into taking redundancy could be named before an Oireachtas committee, according to a newspaper report.

The document outlined a 12-point strategy for intimidating staff or making their working environment uncomfortable.

Siptu met Aer Lingus chairman John Sharman last Thursday and were told the proposals contained in the document leaked last week were points for discussion that had not been implemented.

But the union claims that as far back as last October some of the tactics suggested in the document had been employed by managers.

The Irish Independenttoday reports Siptu will name the managers responsible for drafting the document tomorrow when they appear before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport tomorrow.

The report quotes Aer Lingus branch secretary Christy McQuillan saying: "The committee should make the Aer Lingus management accountable in public for this document."

The 30-page human resources memo sent to at least eight senior managers last year reportedly referred to the introduction of "tacky" uniforms; a tedious training programme for pilots; a clampdown on flexible working arrangements for cabin crew; and the abolition of a special bus service for cabin crew who worked unsociable hours.

The leaked document attracted a political outcry, with the Government Chief Whip Tom Kitt saying the proposals were crude and inhumane.
