Talks between unions and management of Peerless Rugs concluded without agreement this evening against a backdrop of a continuing occupation of the Co Kildare factory.
Seven workers remain locked inside the plant this evening and they told ireland.comthey were now operating a rota to occupy the Athy building around the clock.
Last night workers locked the gates of plant preventing senior managers and a receiver from leaving the premises until 1.30 a.m.
The workers took the action after they were told the plant was to close immediately - nearly two weeks earlier than planned.
Mr Michael Dowling, secretary of SIPTU's Athy branch, told ireland.coma meeting with the receivers, KPMG, was scheduled for 11 a.m. tomorrow and added the workers would also bring their case before the Labour Court next Monday.
The company announced the closure of the plant with the loss of 65 jobs at the end of May. Management blamed competition from developing countries for the closure.
