SIX people have been nominated for selection as the 1996 European of the Year. The winner is to be announced by the President, Mrs Robinson, at a reception on February 17th.
Those nominated are the Taoiseach, Mr Bruton; RTE journalist, Mr Tommie Gorman; Ms Mary Banotti MEP; diplomat and civil servant Mr Noel Dorr; Mr Pat Matthews, executive director of the Irish Society for Autism and triple Olympic medallist, Ms Michelle Smith. The awards are made and sponsored by the Irish Council of the European Movement.
