Six people, including an elderly woman and three children, were injured during a vicious robbery of a Chinese family in south Belfast last night.

Two masked men entered the house in Finaghy shortly before midnight through the window of a room in which a bed-ridden elderly woman slept.

They searched rooms and demanded money before a female member of the family arrived home with three young children.

The woman was grabbed by the hair and forced into the elderly woman's bedroom with the children before she was beaten, kicked and had a knife held to her throat while her jewellery was ripped from her.

The robbers took one of the children downstairs to show them where money was kept.

Two other members of the family then returned home. One of them, a woman, was dragged upstairs and assaulted, while a man was struck on the head with a hammer.

The robbers escaped with a substantial amount of money and jewellery.

The PSNI has appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
