Six policemen injured in Belfast fire

A man was arrested after a fire at a flat that left six PSNI officers needing hospital treatment for smoke inhalation.

A man was arrested after a fire at a flat that left six PSNI officers needing hospital treatment for smoke inhalation.

Neighbours at Seymour Hill at Dunmurry, on the outskirts of south Belfast, were forced to evacuate their homes when the fire swept through the first-floor property.

One man was found unconscious in a bedroom.

Three of the police officers remain in hospital.

Elsewhere, a fire that damaged a shopping centre in Downpatrick, Co Down, is believed to have been started deliberately.

One shop was badly damaged, and a number of others were unable to reopen due to smoke and water damage.
