Gardai investigating the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old father of one and the wounding of another man in his thirties at a house party in Tipperary are questioning six people.

The victim, named locally as Eoin Cahill, died after a number of shots were fired in a house at Kilganey near Clonmel just before midnight.

A Garda spokesman said four people were being held in connection with the shooting. while two others were arrested in connection with a burglary on a house. But he said the six arrests were all part of the same investigation.

The five men and one woman were arrested at several locations in Clonmel town this morning and are being questioned at Clonmel Garda Station.

Gardaí believe two men armed with a gun entered the house, where a party was being held, and fired at a number of shots.

Gardaí said when they arrived at the house they found a 25-year-old man dead. Another man in his 30s had been shot in the arm, and he was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital.

Around a dozen people were in the house when the attack took place, and detectives are today searching for two men in connection with the shooting.

The Garda Technical Bureau and State Pathologist Marie Cassidy were called to the scene, which has been sealed off for forensic examination. The body of the dead man remains at the scene.
