Six suspected dissident republicans were today remanded in custody by the Special Criminal Court in Dublin.

The men, who were arrested in a raid on a house in Dundalk, Co Louth, earlier this month, were remanded after gardaí objected to bail, saying the men would commit serious offences if freed.

The men have been charged with membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself Óglaigh na hÉireann, the IRA.

It is alleged they were planning a paramilitary punishment beating in the house when it was raided by the gardaí.
