Slane Castle to host concert next year

A concert at Slane Castle will go ahead next year, it has been confirmed.

The headline act and date for the concert will be announced on Tuesday.

One of the possible acts are the Rolling Stones who could become the first act to headline Slane Castle for a third time. They previously headlined in 1982 and 2007.

The band celebrated their 50th anniversary together with a concert in Paris for just 350 people last night. It was their first show in five years.

Tickets for that concert were just €15, although their two shows in the O2 in London next month have attracted criticism for the prices charged.

Though some fans baulked at the initial prices between £106 (€131.88) and £406 (€505.16), the tickets sold out.

The band will also be playing two shows in Newark, New Jersey, in December.

The possibility of a world tour next year has been stoked by guitarist Keith Richards who told the BBC: “Nobody’s actually given a heads up on that, but I don’t think that this band is gonna wind up all of this for four shows.

"I think they want to do something for the end of the year, and I think next year probably looks like it’s on".

If it is not The Rolling Stones, a likely alternative could be Bon Jovi. The band announced their Because We Can world tour for next year, with dates expected to be unveiled soon.

Other possible contenders include Muse, who are embarking on a big tour to promote new album The 2nd Law; Green Day who have a new album entitled Uno out; and Coldplay.

Muse play the O2 in Dublin on November 3rd.
