E-Learning company Smarforce is to cut up to 140 of its Irish workforce.
Staff were told this afternoon that the cuts were a result of the company's merger with US firm Skillsoft.
The company said in a statement this afternoon that a "large majority" of the 60 initial job cuts were voluntary. The company said it expects to cut a further 60 to 80 jobs as part of the transition plan.
The company said it intends to maintain its corporate headquarters in Ireland. It will also continue to base its primary R&D operations in Ireland where about 250 staff will continue to be employed directly by the company.
