SMILING Junior Cert students emerged from their exams at lunchtime yesterday after completing their Spanish papers.

Mr Barry Collins, a Spanish teacher at Colaiste Mhuire in Cobh, Co Cork, described both levels as "attractive and humane". The papers were nicely presented and generally "caused no problems".

Ms Ann Harrow, president of the Spanish Teachers Association and a teacher at St Michael's College, Dublin, also said the higher-level exam was a very nice, manageable paper. The listening-comprehension section was better than other years.

She said ordinary-level students were also happy with the exam. There were no problems with the listening-comprehension section. The reading comprehension was fine and other sections were also "fairly straightforward".
