Gerry Smith has included three players who ply their trade in the eircom League in his squad for the World Youth Championships next month.

The Republic of Ireland Under-20 manager has selected a strong squad with the likes of Sunderland dynamo Sean Thornton and Manchester City prospect Willo Flood among them.

Cork City's Kevin Doyle and Liam Kearney along with Stephen Paisley of Longford Town are also named in Smith's 20-strong squad.

Explaining his selection, Smith said: "I have tried to pick the squad in the fairest way I could. We had a long list of contenders and it was not easy to leave anyone out.
