Argentina and Australia have cancelled their friendly international scheduled for April 1st in Spain.
The official explanation from the Argentine Football Association (AFA) was that the Spanish FA denied permission because their Under-21 team will face Armenia in the UEFA Championship on the same day.
And the game could not be moved to the next day because Spain meet Armenia in the qualifying round of Euro 2004.
However, an AFA statement added: "Also, the situation generated by a potential war makes it impossible to re-schedule the match in another country."
In addition, an AFA official explained that the Spanish organisers were not in a position to guarantee the security of both teams and preferred to postpone it.
The potential outbreak of war in Iraq could also frustrate the next three friendly internationals that Argentina had scheduled.
Coach Marcelo Bielsa's team are due to face Libya in Tripoli on April 30th, Japan on June 8th and South Korea three days later.
The AFA want to hold these matches in European countries because of the new FIFA regulation that states that the players in European leagues can only join their national teams if the games are played in that continent.
Meanwhile, the Mexico FA have confirmed that their friendly internationals scheduled in the USA will go ahead.
The Mexicans will face Bolivia tomorrow in Dallas, and Paraguay next week.
Mexican FA spokesman Victor Garces said: "We spoke to the people in Dallas and they told us no activities will be postponed."
