Just one in three voices on radio news and current affairs is female, according to new research.

The study was carried out by Women on Air – a not-for-profit group aimed at giving female experts “the skills and confidence” to go on radio and television.

It was funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

Overall, 33 per cent of voices on air during the study period were female – although this figure fell to 26 per cent for political shows.
