An apprentice solicitor stranded in London after his ticket was sold to a stand by passenger lost a claim for damages yesterday. Mr Frank Walsh, of Thatch Road, Whitehall, Dublin, had sued Ryanair and Compass Travel, Lower Abbey Street, Dublin, after he was refused permission to board his Ryanair flight at Stansted on May 14th, 1995.

Dublin District Civil Court heard Mr Walsh arrived with hand luggage 12 minutes before departure and was told he was too late, although another passenger was allowed through.

Judge Joseph Mangan dismissed the claim, saying a passenger who arrived 12 minutes before take off had no right to assume he had arrived on time.
