SEOUL - South Korea's main labour union group yesterday called for the biggest strike in the nation's history, while prosecutors threatened to send police to arrest militant union officials taking refuge in a Seoul cathedral.

The Federation of Korean Trade Unions, which claims to have 1.2 million members, said a two day strike would begin next Tuesday in an attempt to force the government to withdraw a new labour law that allows companies to lay off workers.
