The Irish School of Ecumenics has received a £150,000 grant from the Department of Education for its 1997 core educational programme. The programme consists of master's degrees in ecumenical and peace studies, validated by Trinity College, Dublin.

The ISE's director, Dr Geraldine Smyth, said "in view of the school's ongoing struggle with financial constraints, the grant has come as a temporary but welcome relief. However, she added that to ensure the survival and success of the ISE, Government funding should be continued on an annual basis.
