A company sales manager, who admitted taking substantial sums of his employer's money, had lodged £175,000 in a Trustee Savings Bank account, a court has been told.

Judge Harvey Kenny in the Circuit Civil Court said Mr Denis Deegan, former sales manager of Softline Panels Ltd, Cherry Orchard Industrial Estate, Dublin, had given evidence of having misappropriated funds from the company.

The evidence was given to the court in an application by Softline Panels Ltd against the TSB bank, Ballyfermot, seeking a declaration that it was entitled to £12,573 in an account in Deegan's name.

Judge Kenny, who heard that the misappropriation may have been as much as £250,000, held that Mr Deegan had duped both his employer and the bank. He was satisfied the money had been stolen and should be returned.
