London - An armed police driver stopped for speeding on the M5 in a car carrying the British Home Secretary, Mr Jack Straw, will not face prosecution, police said last night.
The Vauxhall Omega was stopped on the southbound carriageway of the M5 near Taunton in July, travelling well in excess of 70 m.p.h.
In a statement, Avon and Somerset police said the driver had "believed that there was a potential risk to the Home Secretary's security, and decided to use speed to create distance between the risk and the Home Secretary."
